What is an Ectopic Pregnancy?
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most often in the fallopian tube. It is a serious medical emergency that cannot result in a viable birth.
- Fallopian tube: most common (97% cases)
- Other sites: ovary, cervix, abdomen, or C-section scar
What Are the Signs?
- One-sided lower abdominal or pelvic pain
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Shoulder pain or dizziness
- Sudden severe pain (sign of rupture, medical emergency)
Important
Seek immediate medical help if you suspect ectopic pregnancy. Do not self-medicate.
